Jeffrey D. Fisher
Jeffrey D. Fisher is a Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Connecticut. He is the founding Director of its Institute for the Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy (InCHIP). He received his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Purdue University.
Dr. Fisher has been awarded 9 major HIV risk reduction grants from the U.S. National Institutes of Health since 1989. He has been involved with over $30.6 million in grants as Principal Investigator, Co-Director, or Co-Investigator, and has been Principal Investigator on $22.7 million in external grants. Most of his work has involved theory and empirical work on the dynamics of unhealthy behavior and on social psychological factors that can affect the success of interventions to change such behavior. Dr. Fisher has lectured internationally and published extensively on factors associated with HIV risk behavior, and has done a great deal of conceptual and empirical work in the area of interventions to increase HIV preventive behavior. His work also focuses on designing theoretically-based interventions to increase adherence to antiretroviral therapy, and on health behavior change in general. New work focuses on dissemination of effective health behavior change interventions.
